This meticulously crafted replica of the Titanic’s Fosbery lifebelt is made entirely from 100% linen, using materials selected to match the original thread counts, weave, color, and thickness used by Fosbery & Co. in 1912. Each component—from the custom linen twill tapes to the hand‑bleached whip‑stitch thread—was chosen to recreate the look and feel of an authentic lifebelt. Because of the high cost of linen and custom‑made twill, supplies are limited.
This replica is built using measurements taken directly from Ken Marschall’s original Fosbery lifebelt, ensuring historically accurate proportions and construction. It features white linen fabric, linen twill tapes, hand‑bleached linen stitching, and irregularly cut cork blocks, faithfully reflecting the materials and assembly methods of the originals.
Not all surviving Titanic lifebelts retained their ink markings, but several did—including those worn by Mabel Francatelli and Lady Duff‑Gordon. The Front and Fosbery stamps on this reproduction are recreated from Ken Marschall’s “half‑belt,” while the Inside Back and Warranted to Pass stamps are based on photographs of the Francatelli lifebelt. As with the originals, the ink may appear slightly skewed due to the natural shifting of the cork blocks beneath the fabric.

Archive photos reveal that the lifebelts were originally white or off-white, with darker twill ties providing a striking contrast.
This heavier-weight linen closely resembles the original fabric, featuring the same weave and approximate thread count per inch. The fabric is washed and pressed before sewing.
I searched extensively for a suitable linen twill and found none that matched the original. The twill used in my replicas was custom‑manufactured to my specifications, making it a unique material not available anywhere else.
The cork is custom-cut and shipped, and once it arrives, I make the final adjustments to match the appearance of the original Titanic lifebelts.
The thread used for the whip stitching matches the original lifebelt in twist, weight, and ply count. I also hand‑bleached the thread to ensure it blends seamlessly with the white linen fabric.
